Joyce Chan is a product builder focused on turning complex problems into practical, human-centered technology.
Her work spans early-stage startups to enterprise research, with a consistent thread: leading products from zero-to-one and partnering across disciplines to ship meaningful, real-world outcomes.
Originally trained in marketing, Joyce developed a deep respect for understanding how people actually behave, not just what they say. Today, that foundation shapes how she builds: combining user research, data, and strong execution instincts to move products forward quickly and thoughtfully. That curiosity about human behavior and systems led her to pursue graduate research as a Schwarzman Scholar at Tsinghua University, where she completed a Master’s in Global Affairs and explored how large language models can support mental health screening while addressing bias and ethical concerns.
She is building Smart Attorney, an AI-powered platform that helps immigration lawyers automate extreme hardship waiver affidavits, a process that can take weeks and cost families tens of thousands of dollars. The project reflects her long-term interest in using technology to improve access to critical systems, influenced by her early volunteer work supporting immigrant communities in New York.
Born and raised in New York City, Joyce speaks Cantonese, Taishanese, Mandarin, and Japanese, and is most energized by building products that combine technical rigor with real human impact.
